SUNKISSED LOOK

What do I have to do to achieve the perfect "sunkissed" look?

Sunkissed look

People with tanned skin appear healthier, fitter and more desirable to us. So we all bask in the summer sun to experience that irresistible sun goddess feeling. Unfortunately, the summer tan says goodbye faster than we would like.

In fact, we've been thinking about how to stay tanned for as long as possible. This also has a health aspect that shouldn't be forgotten: the longer I'm tanned, the less time I really have to lie in the sun and expose my skin to this stress. Because, let's face it, the sun is one of the biggest skin aging factors there is.

But let's start from the beginning. We don't need to talk about the importance of sun protection in this. Everyone knows that by now, right? So let's start with a much more intriguing question: Why do we tan at all?

Sunkissed Look2

Our skin develops the long-awaited tan only to protect itself against ultraviolet radiation. Special skin cells, the so-called melanocytes, are stimulated by the UV light and after a few hours produce the pigment melanin. This pigment protects the melanocytes themselves and the layers of skin beneath them from UV radiation. The side effect of pigment formation is that the skin takes on a brownish tint.

Now to the reason for this blog post: Why don't we stay tan?

At intervals of several weeks (the younger you are, the faster) the top layer of skin is completely renewed. The uppermost horny cells are shed - and unfortunately the tan is gradually lost as a result. The drier and more stressed the skin, the faster this process runs. This permanent self-renewal of the skin cannot be stopped – but it can be delayed.

Well, we've learned that our skin's beloved tan is actually a protective function. Do we have to give up sunbathing now?

No, but we should keep the tan as long as we can. In this way we spare our skin unnecessary stress and possible health risks. So we come to the 2 most important things when it comes to a long-lasting healthy summer tan:

  1. Gentle scrubs
  2. Humidity

"Why one? Peeling?" you will ask yourself The answer is simple. The fresher the skin cells that are colored by melanin, the longer the tan will last. We remember: procrastination is everything! Skin flakes and calluses are removed by the peeling and thus do not hinder the sun's rays from doing their "work". Exfoliating before sunbathing also ensures a pleasantly even tan. But always think of him Sun protection. Exfoliated skin is more susceptible to damage from UV rays.

The second point can be divided again: On the one hand, of course, it means that sun-tanned skin has an extra portion moisturizer may need. Moisture improves the quality of the epidermis and the skin's natural renewal process is slowed down. So that means for you: Apply lotion properly after showering. The most suitable is the moisturizer aloe vera or a care product with extra vitamin E. This protects the skin from damage caused by UV radiation.

Second means Humidity but also that you have to drink enough. The skin can only be used to a certain extent from the outside Humidity be enriched. I recommend green tea here. The antioxidants it contains also protect the skin and slow down the renewal process. If you want to additionally stimulate melanin production, you can use foods containing carotene.

Ice Tea Peach

So go now! Make yourself a great unsweetened iced tea, cut yourself a delicious fruit or vegetable platter with red peppers, carrots, mangoes or apricots and let the sun kiss you after a gentle peeling! Just because we can't really travel doesn't mean we have to do without a Caribbean tan!
